Poster - no flash

Shooting for this fashion advertisement was done in Toronto using Polaroid Polapan slide film at night in an exterior city street location, c1988. The model was wearing a leather Bolero top with nothing underneath and we were using a portable flash unit against ambient street lights. At one point the flash did not fire with the camera and the resulting exposure was only with the available ambient light. Of all the hundred images we fired off, this one where the flash unit didn't fire ended up being the most evocative. The image was later used in a poster, illustrating, it doesn't always have to be sharp and in focus to be captivating.
