Photographer Will Santillo brings a wide-ranging cultural sensibility to the world of erotic photography. Santillo seeks to uncover the Hidden Face of his subjects, the sensual persona that exists within all people. His work celebrates these personae with sensitivity, compassion and depth. Reminiscent of the richly sensual jazz of Miles Davis, his photographs are visual translations of Davis’s haunting trumpet solos. They capture The Perfect Moment—the lingering, charged moods and memories that recall the often tender - but sometimes taboo - aspects of human desire. In the tradition of photographers Robert Mapplethorpe, Gregory Colbert and Helmut Newton, Santillo explores the incredible range of the erotic imagination. Blending his expertise in commercial photography with his own distinct aesthetic, he documents his subjects with a visceral yet nuanced directness.
Born just outside New York City, Will Santillo graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design from the M.I.T. School of Architecture. While at M.I.T., he was a student of one of the founders of the famed Aperture Press, the renowned photographer Minor White. He moved to Canada in the mid 1970's to continue architectural studies at the University of Toronto. Now holding dual citizenships, he frequently travels to New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Venice and other major European cities for commissioned sessions as well as creative projects.
